Liezel Gouws, the current world record holder in the 800m with a time of 2.41.70 under T37* in Paralympics is a veteran of two previous Paralympic games, Rio in 2016 and the 2020 Tokyo games – which were held in 2021 due to Covid-19. Liezel broke the record in 2015 in Johannesburg during the national championships.

As the curtain falls on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, we can all agree that Team South Africa has done us proud. You are bringing home medals, new records and numerous personal best achievements, but more than that you are returning with amazing memories and masses of new experience.
On 29 July 2024, we caught up with some of the Bidvest employees who were heading to Paris after winning a fully paid trip to support Team South Africa during the Games. It was pure joy at OR Tambo International Airport – some employees were boarding a flight for the first time.

It was joy and happiness at SASCOC house recently, when the Paralympic squad chosen to represent Team South Africa at the Paris Games was announced.
Paralympian, Louzanne Coetzee, who competes in the Women’s 1500m and marathon says she is ready to shine in Paris this year when the paralympic games starts. The T11 athlete is a world record holder of 5000m attained in 2017 within her category.
Para-athlete, Simone Kruger, who competes in discus throw and shot-put events at international track and field competitions says she is ready to compete in Paris at the 2024 Games. Simone highlights that it is thanks to her support system including her father as a coach, family as a whole and most of all God for always being there for her. Thanks to this, she is now confident and ready
On Monday, 8 July, with 51 days to go to the start of the Paralympic Games in Paris, the South African Sports Confederation, Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SASCOC) announced an initial squad of 26 to represent Team South Africa.
